Magpies in Vietnam by Doug Hurst

In 1967 Canberra bombers from 2 Squadron RAAF were sent to Phan Rang air base in South Vietnam as part of the Australian contribution to the Vietnam War. Using the Magpie call sign, they first operated at height but soon switched to concentrate on low-level bombing. On 3 November 1970, Magpie 91 disappeared without trace—ironically from a high-altitude mission well above the ground fire.

Magpies in Vietnam describes Canberra operations in Vietnam up to and including the disappearance of Magpie 91 and then explains how a group of very determined veterans undertook a remarkable search and recovery effort.

Barrallier Books, in conjunction with the RAAF Association, will publish Magpies in Vietnam in 2012.

From Whites to Muddies by James Kehoe

Rugby Union has evolved in the Royal Australian Navy, not just as a major sporting activity, but also as a way of developing personal skills and attitudes. These skills support the development of teamwork and leadership within the Service. From Whites to Muddies will explore in detail the growth of the sport within the Naval forces of Australia, from its earliest appearance in the mid-nineteenth century up to 2011.

The book will show how Rugby developed and was supported by the Navy leadership, allowing Navy to use the sport to engage the nation's communities and on the international scene.
