Meet the Authors - Sandra Lee
Sandra Finger Lee was born in Fortitude Valley, Queensland and has lived in Melbourne from the age of two. She was educated in state primary and secondary schools. Later she received a studentship to study at Coburg Teachers’ College and pursued further studies at Latrobe and Deakin Universities to broaden and diversify her 37 year old teaching career. On retirement she pursued her love of literature and writing and also immersed herself in art. Sandra has been an intrepid traveler both at home and abroad.
Since an impressionable age Sandra Finger Lee has been fascinated by the power of art to complement the spoken and written word – to articulate a narrative, to analyse, generate ideas, provoke emotion and draw audiences into other times and places – reflecting society and the world it exists in. She is a retired teacher and an active artist who contributes to local exhibitions.
Prior to Sandra's retirement, her close friend and former official Vietnam war artist, Ken McFadyen, died. Thus began her search for the link between art and war. She discovered it in facts, stories, and anecdotes surrounding his art and involvement with men who served with the Australian Task Force in the longest war in Australia’s history to that time. Vietnam on Canvas is her first book.
